Fall is officially here, and I’m kicking off my cool-weather projects with a wrap on my summer sewing accomplishments! Awhile back I made a pledge to sew more and buy less; thankfully, I spent my summer chipping away at my ‘want to make list’ and ended up with a few pieces to add to my wardrobe.  It’s so incredibly satisfying to finish project after project and hang it in the closet, and I’m definitely loving some of my new additions.

Jumpsuit | loulou james creative studio

I’ve been on a sewing spree over the last few weeks. I’m going to credit both Me Made May and my sudden panic over nothing warm weather-friendly to wear and just roll with it.

As part of my madness I finally made myself a jumpsuit. I have to admit, even though they are a big trend now, a jumpsuit has been on my wardrobe wish list for awhile now. Romper, flightsuit, whatever you want to call it – I love the ease of one-piece dressing. For women anyway, since my kids barely wore them as wee babies. There’s something to be said about 1-piece dressing. It’s easy, fool-proof, and in this case, super comfy. Which makes it mom-friendly. As in oh-my-God-I-can’t-find-the-skirt-I-wanted-to-wear-and-my-toddler-smeared-oatmeal-on-me-and-I-have-5-minutes-to-change Mom-friendly. Win-win, I say. And making one THIS SPRING was in my opinion, absolutely necessary. No way around it.

Happy Friday! I’m onto a new design! My jumpsuit is done – more on that soon – so I’m plotting my next adventure.  Okay, let’s be honest, I’m always plotting the next one, and the one after that. Don’t we all?  I’m tossing between a collarless topper of some kind, comfy pants, maybe a skort – yes, I’m going there – and some simple, summery tops…all basics for a great summer wardrobe, and easily made mama-friendly. And all so minimal, my favourite look, perfect for showing off some great accessories. What more do you need for summer? Here’s some of the things I’m obsessing over as I plan out my next project.

Cutting the jumpsuit

One thing I’m really sensitive to is the amount of free time moms have to craft. With all the stuff there is to do, finding time to make a jumpsuit or stitch up a pair of luxe jogging pants is not usually near the top of one’s daily tasks. I’ve tried setting that goal, but just getting dinner on the table weeknights is often tricky.

Happy Spring! April and its milder days has me, like everyone, dreaming of summer sunshine and coat-free days. This of course means the unpacking of the seasonal wardrobe and evaluating what’s missing or in need of replacement; it also means evaluating my to-make and to-do lists and all those projects I shelved back in the fall like this little top. It might just be the last tailored top I ever make. Might.
